Karen joined as a pro bono paralegal in December 2020, volunteering most, if not all, of her time with the Access to Care and Coverage Team. She serves as the first point of contact with HLA for many clients, screens callers on our busy intake line, and schedules interviews with our Intake Paralegals. Additionally, Karen assists attorneys by communicating with medical providers and health insurers, processing release forms for medical and other records, and drafting correspondence to clients, medical providers, and other parties. Earlier in her career, Karen worked 13 years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, was an assistant press secretary to Governor Michael S. Dukakis, and served as chief spokesperson for Bank of Boston before starting her own crisis management consulting practice. She is also a former member of HLA’s Board of Directors.
