Transgender and gender diverse Massachusetts residents, particularly those with low incomes, routinely face unjust denials of treatment for gender dysphoria and other health care needs. HLA’s Transgender Health Care Access Project helps low-income transgender and gender diverse Massachusetts residents overcome wrongful denials of health care and coverage. No other Massachusetts legal aid organization currently operates a targeted program dedicated to providing direct legal services for gender diverse consumers who face barriers to health care. HLA is also an active member of the Transgender Health Care Access Coalition, which promotes policy reforms to improve health care access for trans and nonbinary individuals and brings information to the community to build the knowledge base around gender-affirming care.
